On the afternoon of June 11, the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality held a press briefing. Shen Weihua, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, introduced the overall plan for the 2026 Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season. Liu Min, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Wang Zhihua, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, Xu Qi, deputy director of the Shanghai Administration of Sports, Xu Xin, deputy chief of Pudong New Area, Hu Yong, deputy chief of Jing’an District and Wei Lan, deputy chief of Xuhui District, attended the press briefing and answered questions from reporters.Since its launch, the inaugural Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season has focused on attracting inbound spending through a series of high-profile, internationally oriented events. The city has also continued to enhance tax refund services for overseas visitors and improve travel convenience, driving growth in both inbound tourist arrivals and visitor spending.This year’s Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season will run from July to October, spanning key consumption periods including the summer holiday, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holiday. Building on efforts to boost inbound consumption, the event will place greater emphasis on showcasing Shanghai’s distinctive urban lifestyle under the theme “Shanghai Summer, Join the Family Fun.” The theme invites families from around the world to take part in Shanghai’s summer celebration. “Join the Family” reflects the city’s welcome to visitors of all backgrounds, while “Fun” captures the vibrant, festive atmosphere of Shanghai in summer and its open, inclusive spirit. The 2026 edition will be organized around six themed sections corresponding to the letters in “S-U-M-M-E-R,” bringing together a diverse lineup of experiences across the city. Details are as follows:1. S– Sports  The Sports section will feature world-class sporting events and mass-participation activities designed for families and sports enthusiasts alike. Flagship events include the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, the only ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Asia, which will bring together many of the world’s top tennis players for elite-level competition. Another highlight is the MXGP of China Shanghai, one of the premier events in international motocross racing, showcasing high-speed, adrenaline-fueled action from leading riders around the world. To enhance the visitor experience, Shanghai will introduce a range of sports-themed travel and consumption packages. These include customized family spectator packages for the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000, combining event access with related leisure experiences. For the MXGP of China Shanghai, organizers will launch the “Ride the Wind with MXGP” package, featuring family ticket bundles and admission to local attractions in Fengxian District, encouraging visitors to combine sporting events with sightseeing and family activities.2. U – Urban The Urban section will offer visitors exclusive city experiences that showcase Shanghai’s unique cultural and lifestyle appeal. Flagship events include the Shanghai International Light Festival, which will return with an upgraded program of immersive light and visual art installations, and Shanghai Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027, which will transform the city into an open runway through its innovative “Fashion Everywhere” concept, bringing fashion shows and creative experiences into public spaces across Shanghai. To encourage deeper exploration of the city, Shanghai will introduce a range of curated urban travel packages. The “Strolling Through the Plane Trees” package, developed by Jin Jiang International, will integrate the group’s hospitality, accommodation and dining resources to provide a one-stop city staycation experience. Meanwhile, the “City Explorer” package will feature the Shanghai Pass series offered by Jiushi Group, combining access to iconic attractions and experiences, including Huangpu River cruises, Yuyuan Garden and the Bund.3. M – Museum The Museum section will focus on immersive cultural experiences and world-class exhibitions, offering visitors deeper engagement with Shanghai’s rich arts and heritage offerings. A flagship attraction will be the “On Top of the World Tree: Ancient Civilizations of the Americas” exhibition at the Shanghai Museum, which presents a comprehensive exploration of the history, culture and achievements of ancient civilizations across Central and South America through an extensive collection of artifacts and interactive displays. To extend the impact of major exhibitions, Shanghai will launch a series of “Cultural Exhibition” packages. Centered on the Shanghai Museum’s Americas exhibition, organizers will introduce an innovative “Five Elements” model linking artifacts, people, animals, plants and food, creating cross-sector experiences in partnership with venues including the Shanghai Zoo and the Expo Culture Park through bundled admission products. In addition, Shanghai Museum will collaborate with China Eastern Airlines and Jiushi Group to offer integrated travel-and-culture packages, including “air ticket + exhibition ticket” and “cruise ticket + exhibition ticket” products.4. M – Music The Music section will bring audiences together through a vibrant lineup of concerts and cultural events, creating memorable summer experiences across the city. A flagship event will be the 2026 Music in the Summer Air festival, which will feature leading international orchestras and renowned musicians, presenting a world-class program of classical and contemporary performances. Through its “Symphony Across the City” initiative, the festival will also extend performances beyond traditional concert halls, bringing music into major commercial districts and public spaces to enrich the urban experience. To complement the festival, Shanghai will introduce a series of “Summer in Rhythm” packages. Highlights include a Mendelssohn-themed music and cultural merchandise package, combining concert tickets with exclusive festival-themed souvenirs and benefits. Family-friendly ticket packages will also be available, encouraging parents and children to enjoy performances together. In addition, organizers will launch the Summer Party Wonton Wrapper Family Fun Week, a themed program featuring interactive performances, cultural activities and family entertainment.5. E – Entertainment The Entertainment section will bring together major theme park, gaming, animation and lifestyle events to create a citywide summer celebration. A marquee attraction will be the Shanghai Disney Resort 10th Anniversary Summer Celebration, featuring a series of special seasonal experiences for visitors from around the world. The lineup will also include the Shanghai Summer International Gaming and Animation Month and Xiaohongshu REDLAND 2.0, among other popular entertainment events spanning gaming, anime, youth culture and digital lifestyles. To support summer tourism, Shanghai Disney Resort will launch the Disney Dream Vacation Spring-to-Summer Package, offering bundled travel and leisure experiences. The resort will also introduce Extended Summer Night Operations, allowing guests to spend more time in the park during peak summer evenings. During the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, Disney plans to roll out a range of ticket promotions and seasonal offers to make summer visits more accessible and appealing to families, tourists and entertainment fans.6. R – RelaxThe Relax section will offer visitors a slower-paced, lifestyle-oriented experience, highlighting Shanghai’s appeal as a destination for family recreation, pet-friendly activities and urban exploration. A flagship event will be the 28th Pet Fair Asia, one of the region’s leading pet industry exhibitions, which will bring together pet owners, enthusiasts and industry participants from around the world. The event will showcase a wide range of products, services and interactive experiences centered on the growing “pet-friendly lifestyle” trend. Another highlight will be the Shanghai Tourism Festival Summer Season, featuring immersive citywide cultural and tourism programs designed to encourage visitors to explore Shanghai’s diverse neighborhoods, attractions and seasonal experiences. To complement these events, organizers will introduce the “Paws and Play” package. For the first time, Pet Fair Asia will offer a dedicated two-adult, one-child family ticket package, creating an immersive consumption and leisure experience that is pet-friendly, family-oriented and suitable for visitors of all ages. Beyond the six flagship themes and curated experience packages, this year’s Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season will also feature a range of citywide customized experiences designed to further enrich the visitor journey. In the sports category, the “Up, Down, Left, Right: Sports Wonderland” program will offer an interactive urban sports carnival featuring family-friendly activities and participatory fitness experiences. Under the urban discovery theme, the Global Gourmet Festival: Asian Flavors Season will showcase a diverse selection of Asian cuisines, complemented by the launch of Summer Pop-Up Market initiatives and Bailian Group’s Time-Honored Brands Innovation Trail, a curated route highlighting the reinvention of Shanghai’s iconic heritage brands. In the leisure and entertainment category, visitors can also enjoy the LEGOLAND Play Festival, adding another family-oriented attraction to the city’s summer calendar. To further enhance the overall experience, organizers will work with a range of leading partners, including China Eastern Airlines, Jiushi Group, Jin Jiang International, China UnionPay, Visa, Bank of China and Ant Group, to introduce upgraded products and services covering the full spectrum of visitor needs, including dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment. Residents and visitors are encouraged to access event schedules for the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season through the city’s official digital platforms, including the Government Online-Offline Shanghai, the Suishenban mobile app, as well as the “Shanghai Commerce” and “I Go Shanghai” WeChat accounts.
